The City of San Juan Bautista Fire Department is a full-service Emergency Services Organization that provides fire suppression, emergency medical services (basic life support), fire prevention public education, and rescue and extrication services to an area encompassing approximately 70 square miles. The San Juan Bautista Volunteer Fire Department was formed in 1868 to help protect the citizens from damaging and deadly fire. Just as the times have changed, so has our mission. Today, we provide the community with a full range of quality emergency services, and we are the community's first line of protection during times of emergency crisis.
Our fire department is a volunteer department. Although the firefighters are paid a nominal stipend per call, we are members of the community who give back to the community. The people we help are our neighbors, friends, and visitors. Our constituency includes a population of 1,800 people, ethnically and gender diverse, of all ages that have settled in this area to enjoy a small-town life and community pride. San Juan Bautista’s population swells regularly with out-of- town visitors and tourists that attend local events held downtown and at the historic Mission San Juan Bautista. At the hub of Highways 101 and 156, San Juan Bautista is a gateway to San Benito County. Visitors, tourists and commuters pass by San Juan Bautista on their way to other destinations.
